Hail Damage and Your Roof

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

Spring has arrived and with its warmer temperatures the potential for inclement weather increases in the Lowcountry. Hail, wind, and lightening can cause severe damage to your personal property. According to StormerSite.com, there have been 17 reports of hail, in South Carolina, in just the first six days of April, 2017.

If you experience a hail storm in your area be sure to inspect your home for damage once the threat of severe weather has passed. Though a hail storm will rarely cause a roof leak, the size and density of the hail, the direction and strength of the wind during the storm, and the age and composition of the building materials all factor in to the amount of damage that may occur. Signs of hail damage to your asphalt roof include random impact marks that appear black and/or shiny, soft to the touch impact spots, and a loss of asphalt granules.

Consult with your insurance agent to discuss your coverage benefits before any threat of inclement weather. Be sure to read the fine print on statue of limitations, limits of time after a storm, to report hail damage to your carrier.

Contact MSC Construction, LLC for storm preparedness and damage repairs. We are experienced in working with insurance companies to handle damage claims.
